John Runfeldt is entering his third season as the faculty advisor to the Pioneer Ice Hockey Team. John began playing ice hockey at the age of 6 including nearly a decade of playing for the Ramapo Saints youth hockey organization, 4 years of varsity ice hockey at Bergen Catholic High School, and 2 years of collegiate club hockey at Seton Hall University. After transferring to a college that did not have an ice hockey team, John became involved in amateur boxing. John trained under trainer Raz Aroz Gist out of Ike’s Boxing Gym in Paterson, NJ over the next several years. During John’s time in graduate school, John volunteered at Ike’s Boxing Gym as a trainer’s assistant and conducted research in the Paterson boxing gyms over the course of two years, resulting in his masters thesis on the social conditions that lend to the flourishing of boxing in the inner-city.
John is the Assistant Director of Institutional Research at William Paterson University and received his M.A. degree in Sociology from William Paterson University and his B.A. degree in Social and Behavioral Science from Felician College. John resides in Mahwah, NJ and is a fan of the New York Jets, New Jersey Devils, and New York Yankees.
