The Pioneers take on the Montclair State University Red Hawks tonight at 8:00 p.m. at the Ice Vault Arena in a Super East Collegiate Hockey League match-up between “8 Mile Rivals.”William Paterson University enters tonight’s contest riding a 12-game winning streak, including last weekend’s victories over Temple University, 7-3, and Central Connecticut State University, 8-3.
Red Hawk down
Dating back to November 2, 2007, the Pioneers have defeated the MSU Red Hawks in seven straight regular season games, outscoring their rivals 35 to 16. Shaun McTigue leads the Pioneers in scoring over the seven-game span with four goals and nine assists for 13 points, followed by Albert Campbell with four goals and six assists for 10 points. Matt Gillen has tallied four goals and four assists, including a team-leading three power play goals in the seven-game winning streak.
In two career starts against Montclair, freshman goaltender Chris Bauer is 2-0-0 while stopping 54 of 61 shots.
In their last meeting on Dec. 5, the Pioneers defeated Montclair 5-4 at Floyd Hall Arena. Chris Bauer made 30 saves on 34 shots while McTigue and Gillen each recorded one goal and one -assist apiece. Craig Junda, and Anthony Zipfel also notched multi-point games by tallying two assists apiece. Campbell (PPG), John Gomez, and freshman Steven Orozco scored one goal each and Rob Prezioso notched one assist.
